Auschwitz-Oświęcim 70 years ago

Today we remember and commemorate the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. It's also time to remember one of the most meaningful moments lived during our second meeting in Poland. Comenius students could visit the two concentration camps on 12 January 2015.

Obviously, it was not an easy visit, because many displays showed and reminded us the terrible crime committed by human beings against human beings. The voice of those victims must be heard nowadays. As a final and important moment in our visit, we gathered at the remains of the Crematorium # 3. We lighted a candle remembering thousand of inocent victims killed in that same spot.

The reason of chosing this place for our special prayer was because of Dario Gabbai. He's the only survivor belonging to the Sonderkommando, namely, men forced to assist in the burning of hundred of thousand of jews. Last year, we contacted Dario, who kindly provided us with his memories... With our prayer, we paid tribute to him; we also gave "voice" to the victims.

The person who does not remember the History is bound to live through it again. We want to live in peace, we want use words instead of swords...
